Clippers are on Their Way from Santa Cruz to Panama

On Thursday, April 24th, 2008, at 1300, the Clipper Fleet started Race 9 from Santa Cruz to Panama. Clipper officials were on board SCYC's signal boat Onward as they announced the countdown on channel 72. After the start, the fleet raced up the beach, in front of the Boardwalk and the Wharf, to a windward mark at Mitchell's Cove, trailed by a large spectator fleet. As each Clipper tacked past the mark, they came on the radio and said thanks for the great Santa Cruz hospitality. I'm sure there were a few damp eyes among the spectators.

Clippers Delayed in Hawaii

Due to the organizers' decision to mandate safety upgrades in the wake of two dismastings, the entire fleet will be delayed in Hawaii. The new arrival dates for Santa Cruz have not been released yet. Stay glued to the official website to keep current. We are still seeking volunteers to join the welcoming committee for this once-in-a-lifetime event. Please contact c.doutre (at) scyc (dot) org to volunteer.
