Thank you!

There is now a link to the 2008 results in the column on the right. There is also a link to some 2008 photos. We hope to add more in the next few days. Thank you so much for joining us for the 15th West Marine Fun Regatta! We hope you all had a safe and easy trip home. Save the date - the working date for the next Fun Regatta is September 12 and 13, 2009. We look forward to seeing you and your friends at the 2009 West Marine Fun Regatta.

2008 Regatta Info

The 2008 West Marine Fun Regatta hosted by the
Santa Cruz Yacht Club is one in a series of summertime Fun Regattas sponsored by West Marine to promote youth sailing.

West Marine Logo

Racing ran Saturday and Sunday, September 6 and 7, 2008. Check-in started at 9 am up in the Santa Cruz Yacht Club on the west side of the Santa Cruz Yacht Harbor. Check the 2008 Registrant List to see if your friends signed up.

Intermediate and advanced sailors aged 8-18 were encouraged to register in one of these fleets:

  • 29er
  • 420
  • Byte
  • El Toro Advanced (A)
  • El Toro Intermediate (B)
  • FJ
  • Laser Full Rig
  • Laser Radial
  • Laser 4.7
  • Optimist Blue/Red (ages 11 - 15)
  • Optimist White (ages 10 & under)

Sorry, but due to ocean conditions, this regatta is not appropriate for beginner sailors.

New this year, we allowed sailors to leave the course between races to confer with coaches. However, all coach and spectator boats had to remain outside the race course at all times. Please refer to the 2008 Sail Instructions for the official rule.

Our not-to-be-missed guest speaker was SCYC Junior Max Fraser. Sailing with David Liebenburg, the dynamite duo just won the 29er North American Champs in Kingston, Ontario, against a fleet of 60 boats! Participants learned from the best.

Enjoy racing on Monterey Bay, lunch on Saturday and Sunday, continental breakfast, Tee-Shirt, Prizes, and great sailing!!!

Limited housing was available by request by calling Elisabeth at 831-476-5160 or email ebertrandrussell(at)hotmail.com by September 1, 2008.

We did away with the late fee! We will refund any late fee that has already been charged. Although we encouraged you to register online before Saturday, September 6, 2008, you were able to register that morning in person at the Santa Cruz Yacht Club clubhouse.

For more information, email funregatta(at)comcast.net or phone Kelli at 831-428-2875.
